Jim is the everyman, a bike courier whose almost deadly auto collision presumably saves his life. Spend enough cash on this story, and it would have the profundity of “Armageddon.” Alex Garland’s screenplay creates characters who appear to have a reality separated from their part in the plot- – whose characters help choose what they do, and why.
